When Pearl told Garnet to give her three days to herself so she could focus on her studies, Garnet quietly agreed. But that was five days ago and Pearl hasn't responded to any messages in the last couple of days. Which to Garnet says she's probably caught up in more assignments and tests and forgotten it's already been five days and she should take breaks. Garnet was worried at the third day mark already, but she always gives Pearl some time before she steps in. Pearl needs that extra time sometimes, and it gets harder the more worried Garnet feels.

So Garnet decides, finally, that she needs to take matters into her own hands and save Pearl from herself. She prepares a thermos of tea, stuffs a blanket in her bag and goes by Pearl's favorite Thai place and picks up pad tai with tofu, some curry for herself and a sticky rice to share for dessert. She doesn't bother knocking or ringing the doorbell, she uses her own copy of the key to ente Pearl's apartment.

Garnet sets her things down on the table and goes to Pearl's room and opens the door. There, huddled at her desk in the dark, is Pearl, pouring over a book and typing into her laptop. She calmly, not too quietly so Pearl knows she's approaching, places her hand on her shoulder. "Pearl," she says quietly, more a question to get her attention.

"I did," she responds in that all too pleased, confident way of hers, when she knows she's done good. She returns the kiss, letting it linger as long as she can. It's been almost a week since she's kisses Pearl and she's missed her lips. She doesn't let herself keep her busy for too long, though; first concern is for Pearl to eat. She lets out a small, disappointed sigh as she pulls away.

"You need to eat," she repeats. But she wants so much to be close to Pearl again. And with that thought in mind, she pats at her thigh, motioning for Pearl to sit.

The kiss is simple, soft and sincere -- just nuzzling of lips to lips, and yet it's enough to make Pearl's chest bubble with warmth. She'd gotten so caught up in her work that she almost forgot how much she's missed this. Just having Garnet close.

The kiss is over within moments, and then Garnet's gesturing at her lap. Pearl blinks down in the direction of her hand. The flush dyeing her cheeks might give away that she already has an inkling, but nevertheless she asks: "W-what?"

"Pearl," she keeps her tone collected and matter of fact, as if what she's saying is the most reasonable thing ever. "I want to make sure you eat and that you're taken care of. That's why I'm making you take a break and eat something." She leans towards Pearl a little, placing her hand over Pearl's and squeezing. "But I also want to spend hours kissing you right now." Her index finger draws circles over the skin of Pearl's hand.

"So I at least want you as close as I can have you." She pulls her hand away and, once again, pats her thigh.

As used as she should be to Garnet's bluntness by now, Pearl's heart still threatens to escape through her throat at the words. It's not as though she could be in any way unaware of her feelings by now, but having them laid out so plainly before her is enough to color Pearl's ears bright red.

"W-well, you could've just said so," she says with a little giggle that completely fails to conceal how flustered she feels, and then picks herself up off the sofa and daintily perches atop Garnet's lap.

Garnet enjoys the look on Pearl's face far more than she'll admit. She's always been blunt and to the point, but she enjoys it all the more when it gets that reaction out of Pearl.

"Good." She settles a little herself, once Pearl is sitting on her lap. Pearl's form is small, both her thighs could probably fit inside one of hers, and then still have space leftover. Garnet always wants to cover her, to protect her fully. Having her this close is barely enough.

She warps her arms around Pearl's back as she brings the food container in front to scoop some more food with the fork. This is probably a lot sillier than she's letting herself think, but she won't care for now. "Say aah," she adds as she brings the fork to Pearl's lips again.

Pearl's smile is shy as she fidgets in place, fingers curling and uncurling around each other. Even without anyone around them to watch, she can feel her skin prickle with embarrassment. Honestly, this is so silly...

... Though, admittedly, it's kind of a nice prickle. Garnet can be very hands-on, but she's rarely this-- mushy. It's sweet. It makes her feel wanted, and cared for.

And Pearl might enjoy being spoiled like this more than she'd like to admit.

Eyes closed, she opens her mouth. "Aahh..."

This is probably the strangest thing Garnet's ever done. It's not that she's cold or that she doesn't touch Pearl enough (she certainly does that.) But every time Pearl does one of her studying marathons she worries more and more. Not hearing from Pearl, wondering if anything's happened to her. Wanting to call or come by but not wanting to interrupt. Pearl puts too much on herself sometimes, and doesn't depend on Garnet enough. Or she can be too afraid to just say what she needs and so tries to go around saying it. Being direct is best.

She just missed her so much. And Pearl feels lighter, or maybe it's just her worry making her think so. She grows thoughtful as she continues to feed Pearl bites, pausing when she wants to take a sip of tea.

Garnet bites the inside of her lip. "I worry when I don't know how you're doing."

Within a few bites, Pearl's all but gotten over her initial shyness. It just feels so nice, sitting on Garnet's soft lap, her strong arms around her, being fed her favorite dish that Garnet got just for her... all definitely much more than anything she'd dare to ask for. And that's perhaps the best part-- she doesn't have to.

She really is so lucky, isn't she?

Her feet, hanging off the sofa's edge, swing lightly back and forth, and Pearl finds herself humming a faint tune from the back of her throat. As anxious as she'd been about her essay just a short few minutes back, right now, it feels a thousand years away. Like she's been wrapped up in a little pink bubble of bliss.

Which pops rather abruptly when Garnet speaks again.

"Oh..." Pearl's face falls in an instant, and her shoulders droop. too. She's not sure what more she could say, at first -- Garnet's so collected and secure, it's easy to forget that she's capable of things like worrying at all. Pearl's the fretful, high-strung one; Garnet's the one who calms her down with steady hands and steady words.

"I'm sorry, Garnet," she says, guilt pinching at her brow. "I know I can get lost in my work sometimes... but I'm okay, really! I make sure to eat at least once a day, and deaths from caffeine overdose are virtually unheard of!"

Pearl's smile is as wide and reassuring as she can hope to make it, but she doesn't manage to hold it for very long in the face of Garnet's disapproving frown. A wave of self-consciousness hits her, sitting on Garnet's lap like this, and she folds in on herself with one hand over her cheek.

"... I'm not causing you trouble, am I?"

Garnet sees how her words affect Pearl and she regrets saying them so bluntly. Pearl can be too fragile when it comes to being a burden to others; Garnet can understand that, even she has trouble allowing herself to depend on others.

"You do but that's not the problem, Pearl." She sets the fork down and places her hand on Pearl's wrist. "I want you to cause me trouble, by letting me help you and take care of you while you need it, not after." She takes Pearl's hand and brings it to her lips to kiss softly. It really is difficult not to just wrap herself around Pearl and take as much of her as she's needed for days now.

"And you do need to eat at least three times a day."

Pearl's shoulders instinctively square up at Garnet's affirmation, only for the tension in them to slowly drain away as she hears her continue.

She doesn't say anything in response right away, only turns her hand downside-up to brush Garnet's cheek. The corner of her mouth tweaks with a mixture of gratefulness and insecurity.

"Thank you, Garnet. I appreciate it." At least that part she can say with full confidence. "But it seems like such a selfish request to make... it's hardly as though I require your presence, I just..." Her voice drops to a shy mumble-- "like it."

"... And I know that," she's quick to add, frowning. "Time just passes so quickly when I'm not being watchful..."

"Sounds to me like you do require my presence the," Garnet responds, her tone a little flat. As if Pearl could get Garnet to not watch after her and do practically anything for her.

Perhaps it's the wrong thing to do, but Garnet doesn't let herself think on it too much. She leans forward and it takes little effort to connect her lips to Pearl's. She presses a little more against her, but the kiss isn't forceful or too distracting, and it's shorter than the last when she pulls away.

"I like your presence too." A quick peck in between. "That's why I want to make sure I keep you around."

"Goodness, Garnet, finals aren't going to be the death of me," Pearl says with a faint chuckle, only to amend it the next moment: "Not in the literal sense, anyway."

Her arms move up to wrap around Garnet's shoulders, and she presses their bodies closer as she leans in for another kiss. Her slender frame sinks easily into Garnet's larger, sturdy one. "But if you insist... then I won't tell you no."

Her legs, too, loop around Garnet's back as she melts into the kiss, realizing more and more with every moment of contact just how much she's craved this. Like a dam collapsing piece by piece.

Garnet kisses back, each kiss with renewed enthusiasm. Her hands find their way to the top of Pearl's shoulders and run up and down her back as Pearl adjusts to wrap her legs around her. Then one of them moves down to her thighs, to run fingers along them. Her resolve is definitely waning, her original intent for coming over quickly being replaced.

"You should finish your food," she says, but she's not pulling away.

"Mm, yeah," Pearl hums against Garnet's lips, pulling away only to kiss at her jawline instead. "My food that you got for me," she mumbles into skin between nuzzles and pecks, drawing a slow path towards Garnet's ear, "because you're the best."

Garnet leans back against the couch with each kiss and brush of lips. One hand sinks up into Pearl's hair, the other still squeezing at the soft skin of her thigh. She breathes in and out in little, quick breaths, as she does when she's trying very hard to act against something she wants.

"It's going to get cold." A short giggle leaves her throat; sometimes Pearl's kisses tickle. "I also brought sweet sticky rice."

"I have a microwave, you know." Garnet's laugh just might be one of Pearl's favorite sounds in the whole world, and she nuzzles her mouth back and forth across the spot that elicited it, just between her ear and throat.

"I loooove you," she coos, and alongside the playful curling of her voice there is honest, unadulterated warmth.

Her giggles grow louder the more Pearl kisses and she covers her mouth to stifle them. It really has been far too long. "Do you even have the energy right now?" And she waits for just a moment for Pearl to respond, only to quickly interrupt her with her fingers tickling mercilessly at Pearl's sides.

Pearl's about to say something endearingly silly, like how just looking at Garnet is enough to reenergize her, but she's only able to get the first two words out before being interrupted by a burst of her own laughter. She jolts in Garnet's hold, voice squeaky and high-pitched between giggles-- "Garnet! No, quit it!"

"Quit what?" Garnet teases calmly as she continues to dance her fingers up and down Pearl's sides.

It's only a matter of seconds before Pearl is rendered a squirming, giggling mess -- trying to escape Garnet's grip is meaningless even when she's in full control of herself, and with her bones turned to jello beneath those agile fingertips, she doesn't stand the slightest of chances. She has little choice left but cling to her harder, thighs clamping down around Garnet's waist, nails raking down the back of her shirt.

"You are being--" she wheezes-- "s-so mean!"

Garnet is full on laughing now. It's impossible not to with how Pearl squirms and laughs and twists in her hands. She gasps a little from the squeeze of Pearl's legs, and this time she moves one of her hands to Pearl's neck, where she knows she's the most ticklish.

It's completely different from the sight she was greeted with, a solemn Pearl reading in the darkness. Pearl's breathless laughter is intoxicatingly comforting.

But even she's getting out of breath, and she instead wraps her arms around Pearl. Their faces are so close she feels Pearl's breath every time she laughs. "But just a few minutes ago you said I was the best."

Pearl's whole body tenses at the feeling of fingertips at her nape, and she lets out a sharp whine of distress between increasingly frantic giggles, face digging hard against the side Garnet's neck.

She's all too grateful that it only lasts a few moments more before letting up, sagging against her tormentor with the bonelessness of a sack of flour. Her breathing comes out in throaty wheezes, little shivers running up and down her back still. The back of her neck especially tingles. As torturous as that particular contact was, it served a startling reminder of how much she'd missed having Garnet's hands on her.

"Th-the meanest," she mumbles against her, voice raspy and cheeks flushed. Then Pearl tilts her head slightly, pressing her lips over Garnet's pulse point.

Having Pearl this close, her body shaking against hers with every laugh, Garnet can't contain the smile on her cheeks and she wouldn't want to. Her own body prickles and she breathes long breaths to catch up, feeling her heartbeat in her ears.

She has Pearl on her lap and wrapped around her and Pearl's laughing and teasing and Garnet would want to have Pearl be this way as long as possible. She tilts her head back instinctively at the press of Pearl's lips to her neck, feeling the blood rush to her head.

"I'm sorry I'm the worst," but her tone is playful, rather than an actual apology, of course. "You deserve better." She rubs her fingers against Pearl's back, massaging at tense muscles, stopping especially when she feels a tight knot. Pearl really should watch her posture.

Pearl jumps a little at the initial touch, expecting another attack -- but her body relaxes with a sigh of relief once the contact proves much kinder.

"Ah- that's nice." Like a switch that's been flipped, her expression instantaneously melts into a droopy, heavy-lidded smile. "Could you keep doing that?"

Garnet doesn't have to look at Pearl's face to know what expression she must be making, given how her body melts against hers. Her only response is her hands focusing more on Pearl's back, fingers rubbing against taut muscles. She starts at the back of Pearl's neck, kneading against her, and then slowly works her hands down her spine.

It's nice to feel Pearl relax like this, but she knows she can do better. "Lie down on your stomach for me."
